Possets Sicily Order!!!

Hi guys! I know Summer is over but I really wanted to share my impressions of this order with you. Unfortunately, these scents are not longer available but Possets is great and has Retours so if you want something and you missed out fear not!

Etna:  Strong and aromatic, Etna is a powerful blend of grey and crystal musk, a musk I put together which I call 992 and packs a real punch.

Bottle: It reminds me of a tiger balm I have for when I am sick. Another thing that come to mind (and it doesn't mean that it's a bad thing) is a shaving gel that I used as a teenager for shaving my legs. In fact, I believe that it's the memory of the gel that the gel itself and the hours that I used to spend in the bathroom pampering myself.

Wet: Camphor and a hint of spearmint, then amazing musks. It's perfumy and elegant.

Drydown: Slightly medicinal, musky, grown up scent. Medium through and lasting power.

Verdict: This is unique and I am very happy to have it in my collection!

Cannoli:  Deep fried tubes of the lightest crust filled with sweetened ricotta cheese.

Cannoli are my favorite treats when I go to Italy. I wish I could make them home so delicious. So, When I first saw this collection Cannoli was my first WANT!

Bottle: Yeast and fried crust as promisted. Initial snif I am not so fond of how it smells.

Wet:  Mmm it's getting better. Handmade dough. Still I don;t get the cream cheese filling.

To my nose, I almost get a clean note like cucumber. I don't have a clue why it's there but note that yeast scent do weird things to my body chemistry. I am not to Italy yet.

Dry: After more than 15 minutes it's getting closer to the cannoli scent that I have in mind. It's milkier and I am getting whifs of milk chocolate now and then. 

High silage and staying power

My sister thinks that this is the best perfume that I have ever bought, and she is very picky!

Verdict: Initialy I thought that this was a fail but after a while it's a nice, cozy foodie blend and I really enjoy it. So glad that the strange note disappeared

Gelato:Blood Orange

Whan I first read the descriptions on the gelato line, I wanted all of them. I' ve decided to go with is one first beause of all the rave reviews.

Bottle: Blood orange and Kumquat. This is LOVE.

Wet: Shour Kumquat and candied blood orange. This is Heaven in the bottle. So glad I bought this.

Dry: My mother makes camdied Kumquat and this is what I am smelling with the lovely gelato note.

Verdict: I want to bath in this:)

Medusa:To celebrate the loveliness which Medusa lost Possets has come up with a coconut fragrance which is latticed throughout with a kiss of olive blossom, a hint of myrtle, and a very small amount of stone

A non foodie coconut! I am sold!

Bottle: Fresh air and coconut flesh. It has a spa like quality due to the olive blossom. Myrtle gives thia a herbal kick and a mediterranean flair.

Wet: Ellusive and pretty, sweet and herbaly. This perfume makes me wanting to explore myrtle more. What a lovely note.

Dry: It doesn't change much. it's  great for everyday if you, like me, love fresh and clean scents.

Bpal- Roses, Pearls and Diamonds

I feel like I have neglected my general catalog or permanent scents. Sometimes are hidden gems among them. Last night for bed I used Roses, Pearls and Diamonds from Bpal and I thought to do a mini review.

PERFUME: Roses, Pearls and Diamonds

COMPANY: BPAL

AVAILABILITY: General catalog scent in the Marchen category.

OFFICIAL DESCRIPTION:Red roses, dazzling crystalline musks, and pearlescent coconut-tinged orris.

In the Marchen section of the general catalog scents Beth inspired by fairy tales creates beautiful scents. I know some of you really love short stories so go to that section and read all of them here.

This particular story is so lovely and romantic and sweet!!!

FROM THE DECANT/BOTTLE: Orris and “clean” musk feels like there is a drop of peppermint in it.

WET ON SKIN: Fresh red roses, still wet from the morning dew and orris. Fresh coconut fresh sweeten up the whole!

DRY DOWN: If you don't like orris probably you won't like this because that note stays from start to finish and I really like it! It has amazing throw and staying power. Evan my boyfriend has commented on it.

FINAL THOUGHTS: A keeper!

HALLOWEEN PERFUMES! Ghost Farts- Possets

PERFUME: Ghost Fart

COMPANY: Possets

AVAILABILITY: Halloween Limited Edition

OFFICIAL DESCRIPTION:Oh good grief! It must be a ghost fart! This annual blend is back to haunt us all again. Ethereal, very unusual, and about as easy to explain as spiritual flatulence. Actually, it's real nice stuff and you really should try it, but don't try to explain it. Foody gourmand.

This perfume is one of the most popular blends that Possets has and it appears every Halloween. This is why I really wanted to try it when I was a possets newbie. It has just the most hilarious name ever! I don't really remember from which year my decant is from. I think it's 2010.

FROM THE DECANT/BOTTLE: Cherry, almond and musk.

WET ON SKIN: This goes foodie! Like almond cake. Sadly, it reminds me a cherry syrup that I used when I was a child. When I had first tried it I didn't like it at all, it was too much cherry. Now after some years of aging it's more of the musk and the almonds.

DRY DOWN: It has very good staying power but I just can't get over the cherry syrup comparison in my head.

FINAL THOUGHTS: It's not for me. But I can't only imagine how fun it would be if while I was wearing this someone asks me what perfume I wear!

PERFUME: Almond milk

COMPANY: Firebird

AVAILABILITY: Available via Firebird's Etsy site

OFFICIAL DESCRIPTION:Soft, sensual, intoxicating: almond, vanilla, musk, a wisp of white chocolate. This fragrance manages to be both a soothing comfort scent and incredibly sexy at the same time (try it- you'll see what I mean). Sugary perfume haters need not apply, but lovers of all things sweet and gourmand- I think you'll enjoy this one quite a bit.

BEFORE I SMELL: When I read the rave reviews that Dee and Su had written on this I had to buy a full size unsniffed. Check their amazing reviews here and here and you will buy one yourself too!

FROM THE DECANT/BOTTLE: Sweet almond like macaroon but “fresher”

WET ON SKIN: Now I get the white chocolate too. It's very yummy but not sickening sweet

DRY DOWN: Soft and very addictive. I keep reapplying this while I am sitting on my sofa. The almond here is not the sharp kind and I think that this perfume will please almost everyone so, it's a great idea for a gift

RAVEN MOON-BPAL

PERFUME: Raven Moon 2012

COMPANY: BPAL

AVAILABILITY: Limited edition

OFFICIAL DESCRIPTION:Mournful and Never-ending Remembrance: shining, moonlit ebony musk with benzoin, myrrh, smoky vanilla, patchouli, nutmeg, and dried red chili.

BEFORE I SMELL: I am a huge fun of E.A.Poe and I love Ravens. I wish we had ravens in Greece as well... The notes sound interesting as well especially the dried red chili.

FROM THE DECANT/BOTTLE: Spicy patchouli and deep raisins.

WET ON SKIN: Nutmeg is the strongest note. The red chili note is similar from the scent that you get when you are opening a vase of dried chilies and not the hotness that you are getting while eating them. The patchouli is lovely, is the variety which I love. In my opinion is a little bit masculine and definitely something that Poe would wear!

The myrrh and the benzoin are definitely there and my boyfriend thought that I smelt like incense and he really liked it.

DRY DOWN:Still no vanilla.. It isn't so strong as I was expecting from a heavy on the patchouli scent. It remains smokey and resinous.

FINAL THOUGHTS:I really like it, I will keep my decant but I don't think I will hunt a full bottle.

Possets- Silver Roses

PERFUME:  Silver Roses

COMPANY: Possets

AVAILABILITY: Permanent

OFFICIAL DESCRIPTION: You have Silver Violets, now you have Silver Roses as well. I have a silver rose pin from the city of Hildesheim in Germany and that really popped into my head before Silver Violets did! Rose, of course, with spun sugar, vanilla, musk and magic. This one will be sticking around at least through St. Valentine's Day and perhaps beyond. Characteristics: Floral, vanilla, charming, scent locket, feminine, home scent, long lasting.

BEFORE I SMELL: This was a froppet from my recent order but I really wanted to try it. I had bad luck with some other sweet roses from Possets like Hathor: Roses and candy, clear as ice and as sweet to the nose as to the tongue. A simple confection of pink rose petals, simple syrup saturated with a sophisticated but delicious vanilla, and a wisp of musk to keep it going on your skin. Guys, I couldn’t stand this perfume AT ALL. Yes it is so bad that I have it in a special box so I will never smell it again! I don’t know which note doesn’t work on me and I thought that it would be the rose. I really want to find out so I can avoid this note in the future.

Another one that didn’t work on me was The romance of the Rose One of the most daring of the Valentine blends, this is a throughly insane pairing of rose and butter and sugar and a drop of light tea. It is one of the strangest and most confusing blends I have ever come up with and it works like mad. Sometimes you feel you have to rebel and run outside the ruts of slender convention, this fragrance is it.

Another Epic FAIL.

So, as you can guess I put it on with a little fear this morning!

FROM THE DECANT/BOTTLE: Sweet roses!

WET ON SKIN: Fresh cut red roses still and a hint of vanilla.

DRY DOWN: While I really like the fresh rosy top note, I love the dry down even more!  It’s sugary and soft. The rose it’s there but not in your face.  The musk and the vanilla make this light and wearable. The sugar here reminds me of a marshmallow!

If rose isn’t my enemy what ruined Hathor and the Romance of the Rose for me?

FINAL THOUGHTS: I really like this. Maybe I will get a bottle in the future.

Moonflower's Bliss-Arcana

COMPANY: Arcana

OFFICIAL DESCRIPTION: Happiness under a starless sky: moon vine, heartleaf milkweed, Calla lily, white tuberose, gardenia, and Madagascar bridal veil with creamy butter CO2 extract, pearl musk, white pepper, and a trace of incense. 

BEFORE I SMELL: I have this perfume a couple of years now. When I read the description I immediately bought a full size bottle of it! I was intrigued by all these flowers in combination with the butter extract. I was so curious!

In addition, I have never occurred a milkweed note before in other perfumes so, be ware, Even if it’s there I don’t think I can recognize it!

FROM THE DECANT/BOTTLE: It’s so hard for me to pick out notes from the bottle in this particular scent. I get a sharp white floral note and the scent of the  butter when you are melting it.

WET ON SKIN: This is very perfumy on me. It’s a clean floral for sure. The lilies here remind me lily of the valley. The gardenia and the tuberose are not so much apparent to my skin and I was looking forward on these notes…

DRY DOWN: This goes very musky on me. I really like it for spring and it’s my go to perfume for when I have to go somewhere that I have to meet people which I don’t usually see. Like when a baby from our family is being babtised. It seems to be a crowd pleaser and I have got so many compliments on it!

I don’t really get the incense nor the white pepper.

Staying power on this is pretty good! It stays 5 to 6 hours on my skin.

Bpal- Smut 2012

Bpal  last night come up with a new update and the return of Smut! The new update it’s called “Our lady of pain” and it’s inspired by a poem written by Swinburne

I haven’t even bought any of the new Lupercalias scents yet and now this! This perfumes sound a lot darker and deeper! I am so into that kind of scents!

The ones I am most interested in are:

OUR LADY OF PAIN: Sumatran patchouli, blood musk, white lavender, opium tar, and black orchid.

THE LILIES AND LANGUORS OF VIRTUE

Calla lilies and lily of the valley with white lilac, narcissus, osmanthus, asphodel, and Egyptian musk.

LIPS FULL OF LUST AND LAUGHTER

 Red musk, wildflower honey, elemi, tangerine, and mint.

FEED ME AND FILL ME WITH PLEASURE

Black patchouli, honey, and thick vanilla amber.

O DAUGHTER OF DEATH AND PRIAPUS

Black opium, wild plum, cypress tar, Bulgarian rose, olibanum, black orchid, and tobacco.

I know I can’t buy all of these though. I will wait for reviews first. These will stay up until April the first( I think)

PERFUME: Smut

COMPANY: BPAL

AVAILABILITY: Lupercalia limited edition

OFFICIAL DESCRIPTION: Three swarthy, smutty musks sweetened with sugar and woozy with dark booze notes.

BEFORE I SMELL: I love sugary and boozy notes!

FROM THE DECANT/BOTTLE: Last year when I first smelt my decant I got the evil cherry and I hide it away. Let’s see if behaves after some aging.

Yep, The cherry it’s just an idea now. I am so relieved, I can put it on!

WET ON SKIN: The boozy note is something like sweet wine.  The sugar is not overwhelming here. Maybe there is incense in this too!

DRY DOWN: The lab’s red musk but a little bit sweeter. Years ago I didn’t like that note but lately I love it! I also get black musk. I am wondering which is the third one.

FINAL THOUGHTS: To my skin this is a simple blend but I really like it and I think I will buy a bottle before it comes down.

It’s a very sexy scent that stays close to the skin.

Sacrifice-Ajmal

PERFUME: Sacrifice

COMPANY: Ajmal

MY THOUGHTS: This is a gift from my father. He travels a lot and he buys me perfume whenever he cans!

Upon the first application I smell the alcohol and I am not used to it. It fades immediately thought.  Like the description says it start with an aquatic jasmine note. The ambergris is there and it’s beautiful saltines. The orange blossom and the jasmine are the core ingredients but this isn’t a soliflore but a musky scent.

As it dries down it smells like a musky vanilla with a hint of orange blossom. I also get something like a very sweet berry note, but it isn’t listed.

To conclude, this is a well made perfume but not unique by any means. I would wear this in a job interview.

IF YOU LIKE THIS YOU WILL LIKE:   Amor Amor Perfume by Cacharel but this is fresher with the additions of pink grapefruit, mandarin and blood orange

Finally the BPAL lupercalia update it’s live.Check it out here!  I have been stalking the site all week now! I love reading updates from my favorite companies. Usually, I read the notes one time and then I write down the most interesting scents so, I can make notes and decide which one I want to try. Then I order samples from live journal. There are a lot of people who make decants for huge updates. This sport it can be expensive and addictive as full decant may cost 4 to 5.5 USD. Some people do half decants too or even set of sniffies which are 1\4 full.

This update is full of roses, honey, amber and jasmine!

What is more there are perfumes inspired by Catullus! I love Catullus is one of my favorites poets. I am so excited!

This is why I decided to re-try one of Catullus inspired scents from last year!

PERFUME : My sweetest Lesbia

COMPANY: BPAL

AVAILABILITY: Limited, Lupercalia 2012: Love Poems

OFFICIAL DESCRIPTION: Osmanthus, hay absolute, ambergris accord, catnip, and Egyptian musk

BEFORE I SMELL: Like I said I love Catullus, the notes don’t matter lol.

FROM THE DECANT/BOTTLE: Osmanthus and catnip. It reminds me a men’s perfume.

WET ON SKIN:  I also get a citrus note but not fruity. Maybe it’s the hay absolute in combination with the catnip. The ambergris give a salty note to the scent.

DRY DOWN: Feels expensive. Definitely a unique scent. As it dries down the Agyptian musk becomes apparent.  Unisex and Long lasting.

FINAL THOUGHTS: It’s nice but not exactly what I reach for every day use.

Scent of the day, Day 17!

PERFUME: Waterfall

COMPANY: Possets

AVAILABILITY: Summer 2011: Yoga (Limited Edition)

OFFICIAL DESCRIPTION: Imagine a divine, cold, blue, driving waterfall. This fragrance captures the feel of the pose waterfall as you bend at the waist and let your arms cradle each other in the crook of your arm and you rock to and fro. Again a relaxing pose which restores you as you perform it. Indigo musk and aquatic musk mingle with an ozone note. This one is very dry, non floral or foody and exceptionally serene.

BEFORE I SMELL: I don’t have a success with aquatic scents. When I was a teenager I loved them maybe that’s why I keep sampling that kind of scents.

FROM THE DECANT/BOTTLE: Ozone

WET ON SKIN: Ozone and a sweet note as well

DRY DOWN: I don’t know why I am still getting that sweet note…

FINAL THOUGHTS:  I don’t like this.  It’s like a sweet hand soap. Like the ones which are made for little girls. Maybe, I will use  my sample as a home scent in my burner...

Scent of the day, Day 16

PERFUME: Zephyr

COMPANY: Bpal

AVAILABILITY: General Catalog- Bewitching Brews

OFFICIAL DESCRIPTION: Zephyr -- A gentle white scent, breezes laced with the scent of springtime blooms and citrus. Lemon, lemon verbena, neroli, white musk, white florals, white sandalwood, China musk, bergamot and a drop of vanilla.

BEFORE I SMELL: Zephyr, in mythology, is the Greek god of west wind!  It’s a light spring breeze, so the scent may be soft and gentle too!

White scents are my thing. I love Neroli. Even the essential oil alone it’s perfect to my nose!

FROM THE DECANT/BOTTLE: Gentle lemon notes. Lemon verbena, bergamot and soft neroli in a white musk heaven!

WET ON SKIN: Bergamot and Neroli!

DRY DOWN: I think the white flowers give a powdery quality to the blend. This and the white sandalwood. In the dry down it’s almost all musk with a hint of neroli or bergamot to my skin.

  

FINAL THOUGHTS:  It isn’t very long lasting and stays close to the skin but it’s lovely! Ethereal and innocent. I would love to have a scent like the in a body oil to slather after my bath!

Scent of the Day, Day 14

PERFUME: Mizyaan

COMPANY: Ajmal

AVAILABILITY: Available via various web-sites

BEFORE I SMELL: When my father went to Dubai he asked me if I want anything from there. Of course like you imagined I asked for perfumes and incense! One of these perfumes is Mizyaan witch means Beautiful!

FROM THE DECANT/BOTTLE: This is very musky but it’s not a musk that I have smelled before. It’s deep and sexy. I am not sure if I like it or If I want to smell like it.

WET ON SKIN: Strong musk, aromatic and not spicy clove were the first notes I smelled. I also get something like jasmine absolute. It’s different especially from the west perfumery.

DRY DOWN: It takes a lot of time to get the base notes but it’s worth it! After more than an hour this scent it’s totally mingled with my skin chemistry! I can smell it all day! It’s like your skin but better. This has an animalistic aspect to it. Like the masks would be hundreds of years ago…..

FINAL THOUGHTS: I will wear it again but I think it’s suitable only in cold weather!

Scent Of The Day. DAY 3!

PERFUME: MASTER BEDROOM

COMPANY: SOLSTICE SCENTS

OFFICIAL DESCRIPTION: Soft Musk, Sandalwood EO, Amber, Clove EO, Myrrh EO, Vanilla, Aged Patchouli EO, Champaca Absolute & Aged Sandalwood Attar

BEFORE I SMELL:  A lot of my favorite scents include champaca as a note.  I love all the other notes as well. I imagine a master bedroom with a canopy bed and satin sheets. The scent of a woman’s perfume is mingled with the muskiness of the sheets, the other textiles and the woody scent of the furniture.

FROM THE DECANT/BOTTLE: Sweet clove, a hint of patchouli

WET ON SKIN: I totally get the sandalwood now. The clove is still there but is not a spicy clove. The patchouli is still very light.

DRY DOWN: The myrrh makes its appearance. Now on my skin is a musky scent, sweet but the spice of the clove help it to maintain balance. On full dry down I really get the champaca absolute and it has a fruitiness in it!

FINAL THOUGHTS: I really like it. I have to wear it again to decide if I want a full bottle. It’s a scent for long nights in the bed with your partner….

THE BLACK TEMPLE BURLESQUE TROUPE

COMPANY: BPAL

 DESCRIPTION FROM THE SITE:

Straight from the pits of black, lightless N'kai: the voluptuous bat-winged vixens of the Black Temple Burlesque Troupe!

This is a revamp of some scents but also THE FAIRE! Includes some new scents.  THE BLACK TEMPLE BURLESQUE TROUPE  was very popular and people had raved about it. I am so happy that I finally can tried it!!!!

IN THE DECANT:  The notes that stand out on me are: The cocoa absolute (LOVE!), black musk and a hint of lemon. It reminds me of Haunted.

WET ON SKIN:  Cocoa and musk. I love it. The lemon note isn’t noticeable now

DRY:  I want a bottle of this for sure. On dry down I also get the powdery note  of the musk a little more and I really like it. It’s very sexy. Perfect for a date or a night out. It makes me feel like I am living in another time….
